Abstract

Neuronavigation provides useful information to surgeons by correlating imaging modality to the surgical field. During the preparation of Stealth- StationTM S8 neuronavigation for surgery, the value of oxygen saturation disappeared and only fine serrated waves were shown on the monitor of a pulse oximeter. The interference of pulse oximetry occurred when the optical tracking system of the neuronavigation was used. Infrared light emitted by the optical tracking system of StealthStationTM S8 caused the malfunction of a pulse oximeter by interfering with the light detector on a pulse oximeter.
